| DVR — This is actually the main element of a modern video surveillance system. It is a device that converts an analog video signal into a digital one and allows you to record information in digital format.
DVR — Digital Video Recorder, in Russian, digital video recorder, thanks to it, video surveillance systems have undergone major changes in recent years. Video surveillance systems have become cheaper and more accessible. Now they are equipped with a huge number of private and public institutions.
There are only two types of DVR: PC-based DVR and Stand Alone DVR.
PC-based DVR — these are the so-called «computer video recorders» that exist on the basis of a PC. Together, these systems represent the computer itself and a complex of specialized software and hardware. The advantages of this type of recorders are that such DVRs are based on familiar operating systems, usually from the Microsoft family, they can be upgraded, and they are characterized by flexibility in configuration and adjustment. PC-based DVRs are more convenient to use in large rooms, with several floors, when signals come from many video cameras.
Stand-Alone DVRs are special devices created for video surveillance. They use professional hardware and software. They are essentially computers, but specialized computers with a narrow range of functions.
This type of digital recorders is highly reliable and easy to operate. In addition, Stand-Alone DVRs are more compact than conventional «computer video recorders». Externally, Stand-Alone DVRs look like DVD players or analog VCRs. They are usually controlled directly via buttons or a remote control similar to a regular TV remote control.
A type of Stand-Alone DVR called a car DVR is becoming increasingly popular. This small device allows you to record information from video cameras onto compact SD-type media. The main requirement for a car DVR is shock resistance and protection from vibration, moisture and dust.
Stand-Alone DVR is preferable to use in small areas: in private apartments, cottages, small shops and offices. In this case, it is more reliable and cheaper.
