Color camera STC-2008 with wide dynamic range based on PIXIM technology.

The STC-2008 color camera from Smartec, which has recently appeared on the market, is an example of an ideal combination of traditional Japanese quality and the latest solutions in the field of video surveillance, in particular, PIXIM® technology. Thanks to the use of a PIXIM sensor, this camera has a wide dynamic range (up to 120 dB) and is ideal for monitoring objects with constantly changing illumination levels. Sensitivity up to 0.03 lux, a resolution of 520 TVL, automatic white balance adjustment, AGC and backlight compensation allow the STC-2008 to form the highest quality image under various surveillance conditions. At the same time, it can work with any lenses whose diaphragm is controlled by direct current or a video signal.

The STC-2008 camera forms a color image using a WDR sensor made using PIXIM technology. Information from each pixel of such a sensor is read and digitized separately. Thanks to multisampling and digital processing of the video signal, the transmitted image is fully compensated for losses caused by camera or background illumination, changes in illumination, as well as color distortion in low or excessively bright light.

Unique technology for separate processing of sensor pixels
When the camera is in operation, the light intensity is measured for each pixel of the sensor. The best exposure time is then selected from the possible specified values. This process is called multisampling. PIXIM technology uses five-level multisampling for dark pixels and three-level multisampling for light pixels. The processor then combines the most informative pixels into an image, which is reconstructed and sent to a monitor or video recorder.

Using the latest generation PIXIM® sensor
Unlike earlier generation PIXIM sensors, the ORCA-D2500 series sensor used in the STC-2008 provides not only a wide dynamic range, but also a high signal-to-noise ratio (50 dB). This allows the STC-2008 to be used both on well-lit objects and in conditions of average illumination, as well as with strong changes in illumination.

High sensitivity and frame accumulation mode
In color mode, the STC-2008 has a sensitivity of 1 lux at an aperture of F1.4. When the illumination drops below this value, the camera can automatically activate the Slow Shutter function, which switches it to a reduced electronic shutter speed mode. In this case, the shutter speed of the STC-2008 is adjusted automatically based on the measurement of the amount of light falling on its sensor. By switching to frame accumulation mode, the sensitivity of the STC-2008 increases to 0.03 lux/F1.4, which can be useful when monitoring stationary objects in low-light conditions.

Highly informative video surveillance in difficult lighting conditions
STC-2008 are most effective in video systems at sites with uneven or frequently changing lighting. In particular, these cameras are advisable to install in lobbies, at entrances to underground garages, in casinos and night clubs, for video surveillance of people against a bright background, as well as in other conditions of complex non-uniform lighting.
For example, if a regular camera is directed from the inside at the entrance to a building to monitor people entering and leaving, then we will only be able to discern dark silhouettes on the monitor screen. When using a camera with a backlight compensation mechanism, the exposure is adjusted to the center of the image, and the entire picture is lightened, as a result of which the operator can discern the features of a person, but loses background details. The fundamental difference of the STC-2008 is that, thanks to PIXIM technology, it allows you to avoid this effect and transmits a clear, informative image of the object and background even if the source of bright light is directed towards the camera.

Easy to set up and install STC-2008
STC-2008 settings are made from on-screen menus, with which you can select the necessary camera operating parameters: WDR mode, brightness adjustment, automatic gain control, backlight compensation, Slow Shutter function, etc. A standard composite output (BNC connector) or S-Video video output is used to connect the camera to analog devices.
For lens installation, the camera has an adapter ring with a CS thread and supports optics with an auto iris, which is controlled by a video signal or a DC signal. The compact size of the STC-2008 allows the installer to freely choose a small thermal housing if the camera is to be used outdoors. In addition, the STC-2008 can be equipped with a bracket with through-wiring for wall/ceiling installation.
