SFITEX 2007: movement towards success.

By tradition, the XVI International Forum “Safety and Security – Sfitex 2007” was held in early November. The time has come to sum up its results and congratulate the participants and organizers of the forum on its successful completion. Undoubtedly, a lot of time and effort was spent on its organization, which resulted in an increase in the size of the forum compared to previous years.

On November 6, the grand opening of the forum took place. The distinguished guests of Sfitex 2007 were V.G. MATYUKHIN — Head of the Russian Information Agency, T.V. PARAMONOVA — Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the National Banking Council, M.V.MOTSAK — Assistant to the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Northwestern Federal District, A.Ya. OBUKHOV — Head of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control, A.V. RUCHEV — Head of the Federal Security Service of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, A.G. IVANOV — Head of the Main Directorate for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of St. Petersburg, E.G.TSIVIRKO — Chairman of the Committee on Informatization and Communications of the Government of St. Petersburg.

Sfitex 2007 brought thousands of specialists from different countries of the world and Russian cities under its roof. According to rough estimates, about 2,000 people from 300 Russian and foreign companies took part in this year’s forum, among them more than 50% are regular participants, however, there are also many new companies, among which I would like to mention foreign participants: NAFFCO-DUBAI, Kodicom CO (Korea), Schleicher SICHERHEITSSYSTEME (Germany), Apollo Fire Detectors (UK), Digital Identification Solutions AG (Germany), Eusebi Impianti (Italy), JABLOTRON (Czech Republic), Olencom Electronics (Israel), TYCO FIRE & BUILDING PRODUCTS (Holland).

According to the qualitative composition of the participants, 30% are middle and senior managers, 39% — sales managers, 31% — specialists in various fields: engineers, designers, designers, etc. Among the participants, companies with a staff of no more than 100 people predominate.

As in previous years, the leading event of the forum was the Sfitex 2007 exhibition, within the framework of this exhibition three specialized exhibitions were held:
TS – Technical security equipment;
FS – Emergency rescue equipment. Systems and means of ensuring fire safety;
IS – Systems and means of information protection and special technical means.

According to the results of a survey conducted at the exhibition, participants were particularly interested in technical security equipment (70% of respondents), rescue equipment (16%) and information security systems and means (14%) were approximately at the same level. However, compared to previous years, the number of companies working in the field of information security has increased. Almost all newcomers in this field were presented at the closed exhibition of STS: SET-1, Komin, KB Jupiter, Nevaton, Svemel, Yurion.

I was pleased with the variety of stands of such Russian and foreign business leaders as Pentacon Corporation, Louis+ North-West, ITV, Ravelin, Armo-Petersburg, Acumen (Lipetsk), Sea-Nord, Fujinon, Honeywell, etc. Each company found its own way to intrigue and attract visitors. PENTACON Corporation, the general sponsor of the Forum, traditionally presented a beautifully equipped stand with its VideoNet digital security system, which is the only Russian system of its kind. The Ravelin company, sponsor of Sfitex 2007, also pleased visitors with a well-equipped two-story stand. A completely unexpected and original performance was displayed at the ITV company stand, where new solutions for specialists aimed at comprehensively ensuring the security of industry-related facilities were presented from 4 partner companies, each of which presented its own product created on the basis of intelligence. The Argus-Spectrum company presented 6 new products at the Sfitex 2007 exhibition: wireless voice alarm system “Orpheus-R”, UOO-GSM-C1 (UOP-AV-GSM) Terminal object (remote) device for automatic dialing via GSM channel , ON “ARM SAGITTARIUS®”, “Ikar-7” volumetric optical-electronic security detector, “Arfa-2” surface audio security detector, “Ikar-6” volumetric optical-electronic security detector. The stand of the Louis+ North-West company pleased with its colorfulness and originality, which provided visitors with a huge selection of security products in a colorful design, mini-models of the products presented, and even the opportunity to play chess “here and now.” At the stand of the Russian Weapons company, visitors were given a unique opportunity to try their hand at shooting. And, of course, we cannot fail to mention the huge armored vehicle of the Laura company (vehicle weight 3 tons).
In addition to a huge selection of products and a large number of original designs for exhibitors’ stands, much attention was paid to actively attracting visitors to the stand using advertising and PR methods. The Andromeda holding acted in this direction at its stand: a whole PR campaign was organized with the participation of numerous artists, each with their own act, it was a whole show during the day. Quite active work was going on at stand C10.1; in addition to the fact that it was a brightly presented stand at the end of the central aisle, music was constantly playing here, creating an excellent atmosphere for the exhibition.

The fire theme of the exhibition was quite widely represented. The Hephaestus group of companies presented a finely atomized water sprinkler that saves water, which is especially important now when they strive to minimize water consumption during construction and production. The Rosevro company presented unique aerosol-powder fire extinguishing systems, which are the most versatile means of fighting fire. They extinguish fires of almost all flammable substances by surface, volumetric and local methods. The Engineering Center for Fire Robotics “EFER” presented the developments of barrel fire fighting equipment and robotics. WestCom presented its new automatic fire protection system “Pantheon-APPP”, which allows you to control the fire situation for a large group of objects, transmit information to the control panel, and control various technological equipment. Despite the novelty of the development, the Pantheon APPZ system has already been installed on 47 residential buildings (new and under reconstruction) in St. Petersburg.

Summing up the results of the exhibition participants, I would like to note that 70% of respondents companies achieved the goal of their participation in the exhibition and only 1% answered “no”. Regarding established business contacts, 45% are completely satisfied with the business activity of visitors and the relationships established, 52% are partially satisfied and only 3% did not get what they wanted.

The business program of the exhibition was quite active. More than 40 events were held, the II scientific and practical conference “Big City Safety” was held, the main topic of which was “Safety of tourism and tourism activities.” The seminars on information protection did not go unnoticed: “Main directions of state policy on technical information protection” (NOU DPO “SZTsKZI”) and “Principles of comprehensive information protection” (OMEGA Agency). Also within the framework of the forum, the V International Scientific and Practical Conference was held: “Services of Certification Centers. New areas of application of PKI.”

On November 9, the results of the “Safety Standard” competition for innovative products were summed up. The Forum's competition committee carefully examined the products of companies that submitted applications to participate in the “Safety Standard” competition of innovative products. This year, 37 products were nominated for the competition. What’s new is the addition of one more competition category: “Best Product of a Foreign Manufacturer.” And according to the results of the competition, the winners in various categories were:
