Safes. What's the difference?
It can be difficult for an uninitiated buyer to distinguish a safe from a metal cabinet with a lock.
After all, the main differences lie in the internal structure of the product. It is not enough to take a simple thick sheet of metal and install a complex lock. Such a design will not be a safe.
The safe is multi-layered: it consists of several sheets of metal. But which layers the manufacturer uses depends on the purpose of the safe.
Any safe in Russia must be certified. According to their certificates, safes can belong to one of two groups — fire-resistant and burglar-proof. Here everything is clear from the name. Common names such as office, furniture, bank safe are not used in the certification system and do not reveal the essence of the product.
These are just some labels that are convenient for people to understand. Moreover, anyone can buy a furniture safe, from an organization such as a bank to an individual. At the same time, you can install burglar-proof safes of the bank class in your apartment. Let's try to understand this entire classification.
Fireproof safes (TOPAZ, AIKO, etc.) serve to protect the contents only from fire. They will not protect against intruders any better than a tin can. Fireproof safes can belong to groups 30B, 60B, 90B and 120B. Group 60B means that the paper hidden in the safe will not be damaged by external heating to a temperature of 1300°C for 60 minutes. For example, the popular fireproof safes Topaz of Korean manufacture are certified in this category.
Burglar-proof safes are divided into 5 classes. Burglar-proof safes of class 0 are the simplest model for protection against domestic burglars. A class 5 product weighs from 500 kg to 1500 kg and is produced by only ten manufacturers worldwide. A certificate of belonging to a class is issued based on the results of many tests. It is studied how the safe resists opening by force, master keys, a gas burner and many other tools. In Russian banks, the use of safes of at least class 3 is permitted. But a class 5 safe is more likely to be found in a private individual.
Small built-in safes are designed to be built into the wall. Such a safe can be the best protection, provided that the installation quality is excellent. It cannot be taken away with you, it is difficult to find indoors, it is not easy to open without removing it from the wall.
Russian legislation requires storing weapons only in gun safes. These are storage boxes that are made of steel at least 3 mm thick and equipped with at least two locks. You can buy standard, no-frills inexpensive gun safes everywhere.
The Sham 11 archive cabinet is ideal for accounting departments, marketing and advertising departments, legal departments, and HR departments. Spacious and lockable, it will reliably store all the numerous papers, contracts, folders, and other documentation for as long as they are relevant.
Before purchasing any safe, think about why you need it and where it will be installed. These are the factors that will influence your choice.
