In addition, residents and guests of the house will be more pleased if, thanks to good lighting, they do not have to spend a long time looking for a keyhole or a doorbell button at night.
There should be no unlit hiding places in your garden: hedges, bushes, alcoves, cellar ramps or other shaded areas where an unnoticed burglar could set to work. If the «front line of defense» is well lit, the burglar will be afraid, firstly, of being seen, and secondly, of not noticing people approaching along a poorly lit street (tactical planning). When planning a lighting system, it is necessary to determine the required type and power of lamps, the network plan and the type of switches.
Lamps illuminating the entrance to the house or garage should be installed so as not to blind and at the same time to illuminate the approach paths well for you. At night, this will ensure good visibility through the peephole or video camera.
Choose suitable places for installing lighting fixtures and switches. The most advantageous will be such a location, in which some obstacle will force the criminal to linger in the illuminated place for a while.
Lighting fixtures
Lamps and floodlights can be placed either on the house itself, such as on a wall, or at some distance under a protective roof, such as on the ground, a pole or the wall of a neighboring house. The choice of a suitable lighting device depends on the area of the illuminated surface, the brightness and service life of the lamps. Get detailed information on the range and illumination radius of the selected lamps to be able to illuminate the entire area.
The cheapest option is wall lamps and garden lights with energy-saving lamps. However, halogen lamps provide higher power and brightness.
Switches
Taking into account safety requirements when planning also involves the correct placement of switches, both automatic and manually operated. The following options are available:
• Manual switches should be concentrated in one place so that they can be quickly activated if necessary.
• Switches with a timer can turn on lighting fixtures at a set time.
• They are best suited for indoor lighting. Lighting devices with control systems that are automatically triggered when people approach are especially effective. As a rule, infrared sensors are used for this, which react to human thermal radiation and turn on the light for a certain time, set by software devices. Modern lighting control systems can be either cable or radio-controlled.
