Question and Answer from Mitsubishi Electric

«Our logistics complex was equipped with analog cameras several years ago. Currently, some of the video cameras are out of order and require replacement. In addition, due to business expansion and the opening of new facilities, there is a need to expand the functionality of the video surveillance system, including the ability to remotely monitor. In this regard, please advise: can we equip new warehouses with IP cameras and at the same time combine them with analog equipment into a single distributed structure? — Evgeny Komarov, Noginsk.»

Dmitry STRELTSOV, regional manager of Mitsubishi Electric EVS for Russia and the CIS, answers the reader's question.

Indeed, modern software provides such an opportunity as combining different types of equipment into a single system. For this purpose, there are specially developed hybrid software products that allow simultaneous support of both IP and analog recorders already in use at facilities. Due to the use of advanced technologies, these solutions are characterized as highly reliable, intuitively understandable to users and quite easy to use.
Such software is a video control system for IP cameras, network video recorders (NVR). Some software products have the ability to connect digital video recorders, providing full-featured remote access to them. The software allows you to display any camera or their combination on a video wall or monitors.
The functional capabilities also include multi-client operation, viewing previously recorded live video and images, controlling PTZ devices, creating and supporting custom camera layouts, grouping IP cameras, DVRs and NVRs from different devices and their remote configuration, setting up users with different rights, downloading video segments in manual and automatic modes, etc.
Thus, the use of hybrid software allows, on the one hand, to make a gradual transition to IP systems, and on the other hand, to quickly obtain all the necessary additional functionality, including remote access, management and work with the archive, analytics capabilities, etc. All this significantly simplifies the work of the security system operator and speeds up the adoption of the right decision in a critical situation.
