OPTEX was founded in the Japanese city of Otsu in 1979 with the aim of developing and advancing sensor technologies that had previously been used exclusively in the space, military and medical industries. The company's engineers proposed a revolutionary idea for that time of using infrared technologies in everyday life and already in 1980 presented their first development — the OP-01P door automation system control sensor, the operating principle of which was based on the use of IR radiation.
Infrared radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation invisible to the human eye, occupying the spectral region between the red edge of visible light with a wavelength of 0.75 μm, and short-wave radio radiation. IR radiation is often called thermal, since any heated body radiates energy in the IR spectrum, and the wavelength and intensity of the radiation depend on the temperature.
OPTEX was the first manufacturer in the world to successfully adapt IR technology for wide application. Continuing the development of innovative sensor technologies in the field of production of detectors for security systems, today OPTEX is rightfully considered the world leader in this field. The company makes every possible effort to develop and implement original technologies in the manufactured equipment, creating devices that can ensure reliable operation in any conditions.
Optex OP-01P. The world's first sensor using IR technology
However, the basis of the company's success lies not only in the constant development and active implementation of innovative solutions, but also in the constant desire to achieve the highest quality of manufactured products. From the first days of the company's creation, OPTEX specialists worked to improve the reliability and stability of the equipment, conducting repeated tests in the most difficult operating conditions and striving to meet all the most stringent global requirements and standards. In 1990, to ensure these goals, the Optex research center was opened in Japan, and in 1994 the company received an ISO9001 certificate of conformity. Over the years, a quality control system has been developed that includes the entire production process, from the idea and design development to the assembly process of the finished product.
An indicator of the reliability and quality of OPTEX products is the fact that about a million passive IR detectors of the RX series have been sold and installed in Russia, while the percentage of returns due to breakage or factory defects is 0.002%, i.e. only 20 sensors for the entire period of sales.
Today, OPTEX offers an extended security system, the main idea of which is based on the construction of a multi-level security line, including several lines — perimeter security, protection of the middle zone, as well as internal protection of premises. This approach to organizing a security system guarantees the most effective protection against unauthorized entry to the facility, creating an insurmountable barrier in the path of an intruder.
ACTIVE IR DETECTORS
Active outdoor IR detectors OPTEX are an ideal solution for protecting long sections of the external perimeter. Their design is based on a 2-beam optical system consisting of a receiver and a transmitter, which form an invisible barrier to the intruder, upon crossing which an alarm signal is generated. Each beam is a stream of pulses, due to which the receiving device is able to distinguish a real beam from sunlight or from the light of car headlights. Unique technologies used in these detectors ensure stable operation in the most difficult weather conditions and allow to completely eliminate possible false alarms caused by birds and small animals, falling leaves, precipitation and simply changes in weather conditions.

PASSIVE IR DETECTORS
The principle of operation of passive detectors is based on the detection of the temperature difference between the detection object and the surrounding background. Based on a set of unique technologies, most of which are patented, OPTEX detectors are able to distinguish a person with high accuracy from other sources of IR radiation, such as small animals, heaters and office equipment, as well as from sources of visible direct light, almost completely eliminating the likelihood of false alarms. OPTEX offers a wide range of passive IR detectors for both outdoor installation (protection of the middle zone) and for indoor use.

Already in 1985, the company's sales office was founded in the United States, then in the period from 1991 to 2004, a number of branches were opened in England, France, Poland, China and Korea. To meet the growing demand, in 1995, the OPTEX plant was opened in China, which received the ISO9002 quality certificate in 2001. In 1998, OPTEX entered into partnership agreements with the STA group of companies, which began selling OPTEX detectors to Russia and the CIS countries. Today, thanks to the global network of branches and sales offices around the world, OPTEX equipment is supplied to more than 70 countries.
