Multi-channel system for recording telephone conversations PHANTOM

There have been many publications on multi-channel telephone call recording systems recently. The range of equipment options offered on the market is quite wide. The choice of a specific solution is determined by such parameters as compliance of the technical characteristics of the equipment with the task, reliability of operation and the possibility of changing the system parameters later.

Principles of operation of the PHANTOM system and its models

The PHANTOM multichannel recording system is a device with IBM PC architecture, to which signal lines are directly connected. The system's operation scheme is quite simple: channel activity is determined automatically (in accordance with the individual settings of each channel), and when the channel is active, incoming information is digitized, compressed and recorded on the hard disk. If the disk is completely full, new information is recorded over the oldest records. Recording to external media is provided: magneto-optical disks or a streamer.

PHANTOM runs under the Windows NT 4.0 operating environment, which ensures high reliability of the system as a whole and makes working with it simple and intuitive. All the offered models have built-in network support. Thus, an unlimited number of recording systems and workstations can be combined into a single system.

The security kernel built into Windows NT 4.0 (meeting class C2 according to the classification of the US Department of Defense) guarantees the reliability of the access control system.

The system is available in four versions, differing in the maximum number of lines connected to one system unit, the type of connected lines and the user interface:

1. PHANTOM-04 — a low-channel cost-effective solution, supplied as a separate 2-, 3- or 4-channel board built into the PC ISA slot. A fully functional system (parameter settings, compression method, caller ID, etc.) for working with analog lines. The specific cost of one channel is $445-$600.

2. PHANTOM — the most popular model for working with analog lines and fax communications. The package includes a system unit (mini-tower MARS), LG Studioworks 5D monitor, mouse, keyboard, headphones. The system capacity is 4-16 channels. The specific cost of one channel is $790-1200.

3. PHANTOM Pro — a professional system for working with analog and digital lines (up to 64 channels per system unit). The specific cost of one channel is $450-$1600.

4. PHANTOM Aviaton is a professional system designed for use in civil aviation. It fully complies with the requirements of the MGA Instruction No. 10 dated 31.03.89 and Aviation Rules AP-170. It has successfully passed state tests at ERTOS Sheremetyevo with the participation of the State Research Institute «Aeronavigation». It is currently undergoing certification tests at the IAC.

Adapter Types

Recording systems can be equipped with the following types of external line adapters:

• Universal adapter of analog lines for recording signals from standard telephone lines, as well as any other analog lines for signal transmission in the band up to 8 kHz (linear low-frequency outputs of communication systems, external microphones, telemetry data, etc.). It also allows recording and deciphering fax messages. The user service offered for working with analog lines has no analogues on the market and consists in the ability to separately for each channel programmatically configure all parameters of the system operation (digitization frequency, compression method, activity detection, acoustic triggering, voltage in the telephone network, Caller ID requests, pulse dialing parameters, etc.).

• Adapter of digital lines of office PBX. PHANTOM is the only system on the market that allows recording signals from internal digital lines of office PBXs (NorTel Meridian I, NorStar, Siemens Hicom 300, AT&T Definity, Ericsson BuisnessPhone, MD 110, NECNeax 7400).

• Adapter for connecting 2 Mbit/s streams (PCM-30, E1/T1) allows connecting one or two duplex streams. Two types of connection are implemented: serial and parallel. The adapter of the second type has no analogues on the market.

Functional properties of the PHANTOM family system

The PHANTOM system has the following characteristics and functions:

• 4-64 channels per system unit, the total number of channels is unlimited;

• Windows NT 4.0 operating environment, recoverable NTFS, UDF1.5 file systems;

• client-server architecture, relational SQL database, export of DB tables to ODBC;

• indication of line status and additional information in real time;

• software individual adjustment of operating modes and all channel parameters without interrupting recording;

• parallel listening to a recording (end-to-end channel);

• listening to an archive without interrupting a recording;

• playback level adjustment up to +40 dB;

• disconnectable bandpass filtering during playback and filter synthesis;

• integration with the PBX tariffer.

• operator action log;

• unlimited-volume archive on any removable media;

• automatic self-testing and self-diagnostics with recording of results in the Windows NT system log.
