MIPS 2009.
Interview with the project manager Veronika Ganina and the director of the exhibitions «MIPS 2009» and «Cardex & IT security 2009» of the ITE company Yulia Rodikova.
This year, one of the oldest security exhibitions in Russia, MIPS, turns 15 years old. Veronica, how do you assess the path it has traveled – after all, you were there at its origins?
Veronica Ganina:
The first MIPS exhibition, which took place in March 1995 at the All-Russian Exhibition Centre, was already a symbol of the development of the industry.
Thanks in large part to our exhibition, famous foreign brands entered the Russian market, strong commercial relations began to form, and young Russian companies working in the security industry had the opportunity to announce their innovations. Much can be said about the advantages and disadvantages of the exhibition, but it is indisputable that for 15 years now MIPS has remained the number one event for all participants in the security market in Russia and annually causes a significant resonance among industry specialists.
Objective evidence of this is the constant growth of its participants over the past years. As we grew, we changed several sites, however, we always achieved the optimal ratio of their technical capabilities with maximum convenience for visitors.
Now we have settled on Expocentre, which combines compliance with all the latest requirements of international standards for exhibition halls with walking distance from the Delovoy Tsentr metro station. In general, we can say that this is what makes MIPS unique compared to other exhibitions — the efficiency of exhibitors' work with potential clients has always been in the foreground for us, even if sometimes to the detriment of our own profits, as it was when for many years we «managed» to use such a convenient site, practically in the city center, as Olimpiysky.
Yulia, what new things await us at MIPS in this anniversary year?
Yulia Rodikova:I would like to note, first of all, that the anniversary year for us is a time of complete renewal and innovation.
Of course, over the past years the exhibition has formed a stable image and its own, unique, business atmosphere, and we certainly intend to maintain it in the future. Nevertheless, we have provided for many new products.
First of all, in response to the wishes of specialists, this year the online registration procedure has been simplified to the maximum extent, now it takes no more than 30 seconds.
Secondly, this year for the first time with a single electronic ticket it will be possible to simultaneously visit the 6th International Exhibition “Intelligent Cards and Information Technology Security Systems” (Cardex & IT security 2009), which will be held on the same site as MIPS.
The latest innovation is very important for all exhibitors at the exhibition – thanks to it, they will receive such unique consumers of security systems as representatives of banks, financial, insurance and telecommunications companies, transport, tourism, hotels and restaurants, pharmacy and retail chains.
This, although not a very large, but professional audience of the Cardex & IT security exhibition, among the visitors of which are Sberbank of the Russian Federation, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, DHL, American Express Bank, Lukoil, Gazprom, the Ticket Business Federation, Lottery Trading House, the Moscow Railway Information and Communication Center, Mosenergosbyt, Mobile TeleSystems, Euroset and other large companies.
In fact, this year we are giving all exhibitors the opportunity to participate in two exhibitions for the price of one.
The business events program will also undergo major changes. As part of MIPS, a conference with the working title «The 21st Century — New Requirements for Facility Security» will be held, which we are holding jointly with the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Development. At it, for the first time, we combined the issues of using electronic cards and ensuring security, as well as building integrated life support systems for various facilities of the Russian national economy, including the regulatory framework necessary for this.
In addition, we are developing a project to organize an open round table on video surveillance systems, in which leading domestic experts in this field will be involved.
All of the above gives us confidence that together we will make our industry holiday unforgettable!
It is no secret that the number of security exhibitions is growing year after year. In this regard, the question is: will exhibitors at MIPS this year present anything unique, something that would be worth it for regional companies to spend their budget on sending specialists to Moscow?
Yulia Rodikova:Thank you for the good question. It is good for us because MIPS has always been an outpost for the introduction of new products and technologies in the field of security in Russia. Since there are indeed many exhibitions, we will briefly dwell only on what can be seen for the first time at our exhibition.
First of all, these are the latest developments from Austria, Spain, Italy, Japan, Poland, Switzerland and the Netherlands, which will be presented by such well-known companies as Sony, JVC, Sanyo, Panasonic, Space, Tyco, Honeywell, Shrack, BPT, CIAS, Comelit, SAIMA, and Satel. The exposition of Malaysia will also be very interesting — this country is well known for its achievements in the field of electronics and, especially, biometric access systems.
Our visitors will not be let down by the stands of representatives of such countries as the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Finland, as well as China, Korea and Taiwan. Only at our exhibition in Russia will it be possible to see new products from such world-famous companies as Siemens, Pelco, Dedicated Micros, Mitsubishi EVS, CBC Deutschland, Fujinon (Europe), Eff-Eff and Abloy.
It is worth noting here that MIPS has always provided its participants with a unique opportunity to receive first-hand information and conduct direct commercial negotiations with the largest international market players.
And to do this, you do not need to spend money on foreign business trips — just buy a ticket to Moscow and come to our exhibition.
However, despite the wide international participation, MIPS is primarily a domestic exhibition.
Therefore, the entire spectrum of Russian market participants will be widely represented at it. We are pleased to note that many manufacturers have chosen our platform in this difficult year to demonstrate their latest developments.
Among them are such companies as Argus-Spectrum, IVS-Signalspecavtomatika, Vokord, Skyros, VERS, Rielta, Magistral, Wisebox, Altonika, Vostok-Special Systems and Modus-N.
Also, only at MIPS will it be possible to visit the stands of such major Russian distributors as Louis+, Tinko, Standard Bezopasnosti, Gulfstream, Formula Bezopasnosti, ISTA, Soling, Grand Prix, Integrator and Squid.
Of course, many other foreign and Russian companies will be represented at the exhibition. So MIPS participants will have every opportunity to improve the efficiency of their business, which is especially important today.
The last question, as they say, on the «hot topic of the day». Has the global economic crisis affected the anniversary MIPS in any way?
Yulia Rodikova:The crisis had only a positive impact – many companies in the market, realizing that the new conditions inevitably lead to tougher competition, decided to make the most of the opportunities to promote their products and solutions provided by MIPS. Therefore, in this year, our anniversary, we expect that the exhibition will be especially interesting, which in turn will lead to a sharp increase in the number of visitors to the exhibition. For our part, we are also making every effort to achieve this, for example, by sending out targeted invitations to a database of more than 25 thousand addresses of potential visitors and widely covering the work of the exhibition with the help of information support from a large number of leading specialized publications.
Veronica Ganina: It is important to note that, despite the crisis, almost no one refused to participate in the exhibition. Moreover, according to information from our office in London, the number of companies from Southeast Asian countries that understand that in times of crisis, finding new markets is a key condition for business development has increased significantly.
We remind you that the MIPS 2009 exhibition will be held from 13 to 16 April at the Expocentre on Krasnaya Presnya.
