Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, video surveillance was simple and straightforward: cameras were analog, cables were coaxial, and video recorders were digital. But it so happened that emerging IP technologies, developing, penetrated the holy of holies — the cameras themselves. And this became the cause of the war.
Attack of the Identical

The ruthless IP-ths struck straight at the hearts, minds and wallets of the galaxy's inhabitants. «HD video!» they waved their swords, and the rebels waved. «H.264!» the Impers thundered, and the BNC crimping pliers dropped. «ONVIF!» the cry rang out over the planets, and the knights of analog surveillance retreated.
And powerful recording servers under the supervision of complex software finally confirmed the victory of IP-ths, monolithically entrenched on large planets. And only small asteroids remained under the control of analog rebels, who installed affordable video surveillance systems on small objects. And the rest of the galaxy bowed before the proud greatness of IP power and began to regularly pay a dear tribute for the right to join the mysteries of IP video surveillance.
