Intelligent detectors for open spaces.

Intelligent detectors for open spaces.

Among professional manufacturers of security detectors, the Swiss company ASIM Technologies has always stood apart due to a number of unique technical solutions and the highest quality of its products. With the loss of independence and inclusion in the international corporation Xtralis, the company has not lost its technological potential in any way and, moreover, managed to expand the model range and strengthen its position in the market. In this article, we will try to reveal the secrets of the long-term success of STA detectors, get acquainted with the current range and look into the near future of the company.
What are the key features of STA detectors that have allowed these devices to earn an impeccable reputation and maintain it at a height unattainable for competitors? Let's take a closer look at each of them:
1. Unique detection area and wide model range. Depending on the detector model, a nominal range of 150 m is achieved with a width of only 3 m (curtain) or a volumetric zone of up to 80 x 20 m, which makes STA detectors an ideal tool for protecting extended perimeters and open areas.
2. Stability and reliability of operation is achieved through the use of precision mirror optics, forming a high-density detection zone and a unique digital signal processing algorithm with Adaptive Alarm Threshold technology. The detectors are easy to configure, and most importantly, to do this with high accuracy, using auxiliary equipment (telescope, audio tester) and specialized software included in the delivery set.
3. Resistance to various weather conditionsis due to the special design of the housing (dust and moisture protection class IP64), the use of quartz glass, which protects the detector from external illumination, and the already mentioned intelligent microprocessor processing system. The built-in thermostatic heater prevents condensation on the optical elements, and the temperature compensation system ensures stable operation of the detector even with rapid changes in environmental parameters.
4. Finally, it is impossible not to mention the magnificent design of STA detectors, which, in addition to good aesthetics, also has a warning function: due to its similarity to an outdoor TV camera in a protective casing, its appearance makes most intruders abandon their plans even before invading the protected area.

Currently, the STA detector line consists of 7 main models, which can be divided into two groups: detectors with a narrow-beam and volumetric detection zone.
Detectors with a curtain-type diagram are represented by the STA-414/M2, STA-454/M2 models with a detection range of 150 m, as well as the medium-range STA-453/M2 model with a detection zone of 60 x 3.9 m. These devices allow you to create a reliable and dense, albeit invisible, barrier up to 4 m high, which is especially important if the protected area does not have a solid fence. Also, due to the extremely narrow detection zone, these detectors have found the widest application at facilities requiring the organization of an exclusion zone between two physical fences, such as correctional labor institutions, strategic industrial and military facilities. Particularly worth mentioning is the STA-457/M2 model, the direction diagram of which consists of two curtains: «right» and «left». Due to this diagram, STA-473/M2 can determine the movement of an intruder in its field of view. When setting up the detector, you can specify in which direction (when the beams cross from left to right, or vice versa) it should generate an alarm.
Detectors with a volumetric detection zone, such as STA-457/M2, STA-458/M2 and STA-456/M2, with diagrams of 27 x 30, 30 x 27 and 80 x 20 m respectively, have proven themselves to be excellent for protecting open areas of warehouse, industrial and military purposes. The use of these models is especially advantageous in cases where it is impossible to monitor the perimeter of the protected area, as well as an additional line of defense.
It is impossible to leave without special attention the already mentioned specialized software, which allows not only to facilitate the configuration of detectors at the facility, but can also be used as a permanent operational application and event logging. Thanks to the built-in RS-485 interface, the detectors can be combined into a single addressable system and connected to the control computer via the optional IF 485B module, designed to work with 16 detectors. One operator's workstation can service up to 16 such modules simultaneously, thus, the total number of detectors in the addressable system can be 256 pcs. The software has an open platform and supports integration into various centralized software packages for video and security monitoring, which, of course, simplifies the task of building security systems at large facilities.
The company constantly conducts engineering research and new developments in the field of perimeter protection. The nearest plans include the release of a line of explosion-proof detectors, which is dictated by the growing needs of industry, primarily the gas, oil and chemical industries. By the way, the outstanding technical characteristics of STA detectors have not gone unnoticed by the security services of the above-mentioned structures and have been used for a long time to protect the most important facilities.
In conclusion, I would like to especially emphasize that STA detectors have not become hostages to the total savings syndrome that has engulfed almost all manufacturers and, as a result, a significant deterioration in quality. The engineering center and production facilities for the production of detectors, as before, are based in Switzerland, which guarantees the impeccable reliability of products under the STA brand. Perhaps the only downside of this approach is the high cost, but we are not surprised by the price of real Swiss chronometers, are we?
