Solutions based on BACnet and KNX protocols.
Neues Kranzler Eck
(Berlin, Germany)
The Neues Kranzler Eck office centre with an office area of 45,000 square metres offers space for 1,800 to 2,000 workstations. The building automation system was implemented using the KNX protocol, which is linked to the control level via BACnet gateways and is integrated into the central building management system. It controls lighting, screening, air conditioning, ventilation and heating. It also increases comfort, reduces energy consumption and optimises building management.
The BACnet protocol is used as a standard for centralized automated building management. Individual ventilation and air conditioning systems are controlled by direct digital control DDC on the BACnet protocol. In this way, all functions in individual office spaces can be visualized. For equipment managers according to the DIFA system, they are supplemented by a «power tool», which can operate separately from all technical objects.
Stihl AG tool factory
(Waiblingen, Germany)
Stihl AG is one of the world's leading manufacturers and exporters of power tools. The company's headquarters are located in Waiblingen, near Stuttgart. Both buildings, located at opposite ends of the city, are the company's hubs. However, there was an urgent need to ensure convenient office and plant management. It was decided to connect both factories with a common control system and establish common control of both existing systems and new facilities. Open communication protocols KNX and BACnet were used to establish the new technical infrastructure. In recent years, the building management system at the business level has been completely modernized using KNX. All systems, including HVAC control, are now interconnected via the BACnet protocol.
University Hospital
(Trondheim, Norway)
St. Olav's Hospital (total area 210,000 m2) could soon become one of the most innovative university hospitals in Europe. For example, the building materials were selected with strict consideration for their environmental friendliness. Equally stringent were the requirements for air quality, heating, noise reduction and lighting in the hospital rooms. In line with these high requirements, an integration solution based on KNX–BACnet technology was also planned. Around 10,000 certified KNX controllers will ensure the circulation of fresh air. The building will be controlled using KNX–BACnet gateways and a control system based on the BACnet protocol.
The building was designed in close cooperation with the staff of St. Olav's Hospital. The new university hospital will offer everything necessary for the modern provision of health care services to its patients and their relatives, staff, as well as students.
Police Headquarters
(Frankfurt, Germany)
The new Frankfurt police headquarters (total area 57,000 sq. m) includes various functional areas: office space, central control room, shooting ranges, reaction training rooms, a multi-functional gym, a refreshment bar, and a car repair shop. The symbol of this complex is the logo with the image of a helicopter hovering above the building.
In the police headquarters building, KNX equipment and systems were used to ensure control of the lighting and blackout system in the employees' personal offices. The KNX protocol was chosen for the following reasons: 100% interoperability between products from different manufacturers, certified KNX products, and the ability to connect to the KNX network via standard gateways. This unified building management system clearly offers the advantages of locality and unified control, which facilitate trouble-free control of the most modern equipment.
