Innovative technologies: a new look at IR detectors
This article touches upon detectors that for certain reasons have not become widespread and have been unfairly neglected by many security market participants. We will talk about security volumetric IR detectors powered by the alarm loop of the control panel (CPP).
Tell me, have you ever used IR detectors powered by the alarm loop of the control panel? Surely, the overwhelming majority of readers will answer negatively. And there are certainly reasons for that.
The main reason for the current situation can be called the technical side of the matter, which in turn includes several aspects.
Modern requirements for protecting premises from intrusion have led to the fact that up to several dozen detectors are connected to one control panel at a facility. Of course, the devices are not able to provide such current consumption at the facility with their power supplies and batteries, which forces designers to install additional power supplies.
It would seem that the disadvantages of IR detectors powered by an external source are obvious. It is also obvious that these disadvantages need to be addressed. Who will be the first to change the situation in favor of detectors powered by a loop?
The Russian manufacturer NPO Siberian Arsenal, having accumulated significant scientific and technical potential in the development and production of fire alarm systems, has decided to bring to market the volumetric passive IR detectors Rapid-3 and Rapid-5, powered by a loop.
The Rapid-3 detector is a classic representative of the genre. High-quality wide-angle lens (made in the USA), providing a detection range of up to 15 m, a light indicator with the ability to turn off, a wide range of operating temperatures (from -30 ° C to + 50 ° C).
The Rapid-5 detector, compared to its «younger brother», has an additional anti-sabotage zone, allowing you to detect an intruder in the immediate vicinity of the detector. Otherwise, all parameters are the same as those of the Rapid-3
. From the technical characteristics of «Rapid-3/5» one can immediately highlight such a parameter as uniquely low current consumption. Consuming only 70 μA in standby mode, these detectors have a wide range of supply voltage — from 8 to 30 V. Based on the parameters of current consumption, it can be concluded that the connection of «Rapid-3/5» is possible to almost all control and monitoring devices.
The conducted operational tests showed that the permissible number of «Rapid-3/5» detectors included in each loop of any device manufactured by the enterprise can reach 25 pieces. At the same time, reliable operation of the system is guaranteed.
How many people use 25 detectors in one alarm loop? Hence the second conclusion: a smaller number of them will not create any problems.
A microprocessor is used to process signals in the detectors, which allows improving the detection algorithm and increasing the stability of the detectors.
When connecting several Rapid-3/5 detectors to the alarm loop, there is no need to additionally select an end-of-line resistor and there is no need to observe the polarity — it can be arbitrary.
The new IR detectors «Rapid-3» and «Rapid-5» are capable of turning market participants towards detectors with loop power supply. Designers, installers and end users will appreciate the advantages of the new products. Skeptics can be reminded that until recently, fire smoke detectors also had a 4-wire connection line, which has now sunk into oblivion.
