So once again the security industry's biggest event of the year returns to the NEC, Birmingham from 12 to 15 May 2008.

We are, of course, talking about IFSEC-2008.

This year the exhibition celebrated its 35th anniversary.

IFSEC began when ISEC (International Security Exhibition and Conference) took place in the basement of the Royal Lancaster Hotel in 1973.

An exhibition with just over 60 exhibitors mainly from the security sector alarm system became the prologue of the Biennale, enjoying worldwide success and becoming one of the main brands of the security industry.
Over 35 years, the exhibition has grown into a powerful event known throughout the world. This growth continues today.

In 2008, visitors were able to get acquainted in detail with two new product areas, which became an organic addition to the already existing eight thematic sections.

The first of the new products is “Counterterrorism at IFSEC” , a special forum where specialists from federal agencies, first responders, customs, tax, immigration, police and bailiffs were able to meet equipment suppliers and learn new technologies.

The main events took place at the demonstration site, where the latest technologies were tested in conditions as close as possible to real ones, including conflict management, detection of hidden weapons, explosives and drugs.

A conference was held, the program of which was focuses on border, port and transport security, surveillance and protection, major incident management and response, and other issues.

The conference featured a number of experienced speakers, including:

  • DAC John McDowall, National Coordinator of Terrorist Investigations, Metropolitan Police
  • Don Randall, Senior Vice President, JP Morgan
  • Chris Patzelt, General Secretary, Football Safety Officers Association
  • Geoff Dunmore, Operational Security Manager, London Underground
  • David Evans, Project Director 2012, British Security Industry Association
  • Iain Jack, Senior Security Adviser, The International Air Transport Association

The City of London Police has introduced Project Griffin, a joint program between the London Police Service and the City of London Police, providing advice and trainings for managers, security officers and workers of large organizations across London on security and counter-terrorism issues.

Attendees were able to take as a basis a specific topic from one of the special sessions or create their own schedule from a variety of modules, mixing program of your participation.
