High-definition video surveillance.

Increasing functionality of network cameras is stimulated by growing demand for models with improved resolution and intelligent video processing capabilities

Axis Communications demonstrated «Security Technologies» at the international forum 187;, held in early February, new network cameras, including a model with full support for HDTV technology.

Increasing functionality of network cameras is stimulated by growing demand for models with improved resolution and intelligent video processing capabilities that support the latest compression technologies.

Such technologies are regulated by video compression standards — ITU-T H.264 and ISO/IEC MPEG-4 Part 10 (ISO/IEC 14496-10).

The use of these identical standards provides a high degree of compression of the video stream while maintaining high image quality.

H.264 reduces network bandwidth and archive size requirements by almost 80% compared to the widely used Motion JPEG standard.

The H.264 standard is used in the Q1755 network camera, released late last year (it also supports Motion JPEG), which, according to Axis, is the first camera of its type to support HDTV technology.

This technology is defined SMPTE standards set by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. SMPTE 296M (720p) is intended for television broadcasting systems and provides a resolution of 1280×720 in a 16:9 format.

The scope of application of SMPTE 274M (1080p) with a resolution of 1920×1080 is computer graphics and Blu-ray systems.

At any resolution, the new camera provides 25-30 frames per second.

It uses progressive scan and provides day and night modes.

Q1755 is equipped with a slot for SD memory cards/SDHC, supports Power over Ethernet technology (IEEE 802.3af), IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, as well as quality of service (QoS) management functions.

Intelligent capabilities include advanced motion and sound detection functions, detection of attempts to influence the camera with the formation of alarm signals for unauthorized actions, automatic zoom in when motion is detected in the surveillance area.

Another new product is the Axis M10 series.

Two of the three miniature cameras that make up it are capable of operating in wireless local area networks of the 812.11b/g standard.

The series supports multiple customizable high-definition video streams based on H.264, Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 Part 2 compression technologies at up to 30 frames per second at VGA resolution.

The M1031-W features a passive an infrared sensor that detects moving objects in the absence of light, and an LED lamp that automatically illuminates what is happening when certain events are recorded or at the user’s command.

Delivery of new cameras, which began in January, could no longer affect financial results of the past year.

It was initially planned that in 2008 sales growth in Russia, as in previous years, would be at least 80%. However, the crisis made its own adjustments and, despite the opening of a representative office in September, Axis revenues increased by 60%.

But this is also significantly higher than the corporate indicator of 18%, due to which Axis sales exceeded the 250 million mark in 2008 dollars

According to just published data from IMS Research, Axis accounts for 46% of the network camera market in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

The company also ranks here third place among manufacturers of cameras used in security systems.

General Director of Axis Communications Stanislav Gucia, commenting on the decline in effective demand in our country for the company’s solutions, noted that many customers wishing to purchase them are currently not can take advantage of bank loans.

As part of the work to create a warranty and post-warranty service for Axis products, negotiations are underway with two companies interested in this type of activity.
