GSM alarms: what the market offers.

There is a lot of talk about GSM alarms today.

Some praise them, predicting a great and bright future for them.

Some frown skeptically, not considering these devices a serious technical solution.

Let's just say: they exist. And their appearance is quite natural.

In two decades, cellular communications in Russia have gone from being exotic, accessible only to a very narrow circle, to being commonplace, accessible to everyone.

Today, a mobile phone in the hands of a schoolchild or a pensioner is a common thing. Almost no one leaves home without this convenient means of communication, which allows you to stay in touch with friends, family, loved ones, colleagues 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, wherever they are.

We talk freely in the subway, send SMS greetings on New Year's Eve without any problems — the quality and services of cellular communications are improving day by day.

So the use of such a powerful potential in technical security means is quite logical and completely justified.

This is even more justified in systems intended for, let's say, domestic use, i.e. suitable for self-installation.

Today, information about GSM alarms for protecting apartments, summer houses, cottages and garages can be found easily and almost everywhere.

We will not take sides, look for flaws and shortcomings, arrange ratings, but will simply try to tell you what the market offers today and what types of GSM alarms there are.

Let's try to understand how they differ and how they are similar.

So, what are GSM alarms for?

The answer is simple: to notify the owner of an intrusion into the protected area. The most common objects of protection include apartments, country houses, cottages, summer houses and garages.

What do GSM alarms usually consist of?

A control panel, a GSM module, one or more sensors.

Moreover, the number and purpose of sensors depends only on the desire and capabilities of the manufacturer: security, fire, water leaks, gas leaks.

Sometimes GSM alarms come with video cameras.

How do GSM alarms work?

The operating principle of such alarms is as simple as everything ingenious.

When one or more sensors (volume, smoke, noise, etc.) connected to the control panel are triggered, the signal is transmitted to the GSM module, which dials or sends SMS messages to pre-programmed numbers. What types of GSM alarms are there?

Here the answer will be more detailed. GSM alarms differ in the type of power supply, design, principle of connecting sensors, as well as the type of message transmitted.

By power supply type, GSM alarms are divided into autonomous, operating from a 220 V network, and combined.

Autonomous alarms are certainly good because they can be installed in rooms that do not have a power supply (for example, summer houses in winter, garages).

A positive quality of alarms operating from the network is the ability to notify the owner about a power outage.

Combined systems, accordingly, have all the listed advantages.

By design, GSM alarms are divided into single-component (made in one case), block-modular (made in several cases, connected by wired or wireless communication lines) and GSM modules for standard control panels.

Separate design of the GSM module and control panel allows maintaining the system's operability even in the event of failure of any sensor or component. Models made in one case are cheaper and easier to install.

Based on the principle of connecting security sensors to the control panel, alarms are divided into wireless, wired and combined.

Wireless systems are good because they will not spoil the interior or the repairs already done. Systems with wired sensors are cheaper, but at the same time they are quite reliable, which, you must agree, is also important.

GSM alarms also differ in the type of message transmitted: SMS only, voice only, combined.

In alarms of the first type, SMS messages are sent to the owner's cell phone.

Voice notification allows you to receive alarm messages both on your cell phone and on your regular home phone.

An alarm with a combined message type will call all your phones, and in addition, send SMS messages.

An important advantage of all GSM alarms is their suitability for self-installation: even a non-professional can easily install them on site using only a screwdriver and setup instructions.

GSM-4 (Satel) cellular communication module

GSM-4 is compatible with all control panels and equipment that transmit notifications via an analog PSTN telephone line.

The cellular module can be used as a backup PSTN line, and if there is no telephone connection at the site, as the main line.

Notification — in the form of a voice message, SMS or CLIP. Sending monitoring signals from any control panel can be done via SMS or in one of the popular formats via a GPRS channel.

Remote control can be implemented on the basis of GSM-4.

The module has three outputs that are activated, for example, when a sensor is triggered or by telephone using CLIP.

GSM-4 has four programmable inputs that activate notification and/or GPRS monitoring.

Their status is controlled by SMS, voice messages or CLIP. Users are provided with the DLOAD10 program for configuring the module from a PC via RS-232. In addition, the GSM-4 can be programmed from the integrated LCD display.
