SECURITY ESSEN-2010 Exhibition.

About 42,000 specialists from 113 countries visited the SECURITY ESSEN-2010 exhibition
The 19th international exhibition SECURITY Essen, as usual, was held at the exhibition complex Messe Essen (Essen, Germany) and was marked by new bright achievements. Judge for yourself: about 42,000 visitors had the opportunity to approach the exhibition stands of any of the 1,078 participants from 38 countries and receive full information about the features of the operation of technical means of security, fire protection and services in the field of security.

This year, significantly more visitors than ever came to Essen. The exhibition was visited by representatives of 113 countries. The share of foreigners among the participants of the exhibition was 46%, and this is a new unofficial record of the exhibition.

It is no coincidence that Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen, said: «The impressive results of SECURITY ESSEN confirm its leading position in the global security sector.

No other trade fair offers such rich and effective international contacts and negotiations. The atmosphere throughout the entire trade fair was extremely positive.»

Optimistic outlook for the sector

SECURITY ESSEN-2010 has truly become the most international in the history of exhibitions. Moreover, its participants almost unanimously noted the high competence of visitors and their willingness to invest in security.

Almost 90% of those who visited the exhibition have a decisive influence on the purchasing decisions made by their companies.

Every fourth visitor stated that their company intends to spend more than 250,000 euros on security equipment in the coming year; almost 12% intend to invest more than 1 million euros. Overall, industry, security and business experts are positive about the development prospects of their sector.

More than 70% of visitors are convinced that their companies will be more active economically in the future.

Innovative solutions

The exposition topics were very relevant. Many participants presented new interesting developments. For example, innovative systems providing access control by recognizing fingerprints and capillaries on fingers.

HD technology, providing higher resolution and image quality of video surveillance systems, was widely presented. Solutions providing security in schools, such as special emergency exit doors and acoustic systems, aroused great interest.

There were many premieres at the exhibition. The most innovative developments were rewarded with Security Innovation Awards from Messe Essen.

System solutions

Measures to ensure corporate, physical, fire and IT security in many companies are a single whole. In this regard, there is a constant need to develop new system solutions that take into account the interests of all security entities.

And such solutions were seen by visitors of SECURITY ESSEN -2010. For example, more than 100 companies presented a full range of structural and installation technologies. And in the fire-fighting segment, mobile fire protection equipment was announced. In general, fire safety equipment was presented at the exhibition by more than 230 companies.

In the thematic section «IT Security», as well as at open forums, specialists were able to get acquainted with new information technologies and, using specific examples of installation and new developments, trace their increasingly close connection with solving security problems.
Peter Hohl, the organizer of the thematic section, noted: «If a hacker, having broken a cylinder lock and connected his laptop, can penetrate a bank computer, removing information from a printer with bank statements, this speaks of the urgent need to combine classical and IT security.»

In addition, the exhibition became a platform for an interested and constructive exchange of opinions. Speakers and participants of open forums, of which there were many during the exhibition, held discussions on the most pressing issues of the industry, such as: protection against intrusion, IP video surveillance systems, new modifications of locks and individual protection, means and systems of access control and management, etc.

For the first time, a symposium on innovative security technologies was held within the framework of SECURITY ESSEN, in which leading international experts from the fields of politics, industry, economics and science took part. The speeches by the Minister of Justice of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Thomas Kuchata, and the CEO of the European Organization for Security (EOS), Dr. Luigi Rebuffi, were of great interest.

Ahead is the 20th anniversary exhibition

The 20th SECURITY ESSEN will be held from September 25 to 28, 2012. There are two years of painstaking work ahead to prepare for this significant event in the industry. But already 93% of visitors and 94% of exhibitors have expressed a desire to attend the next exhibition in Essen.

Feedback from exhibitors

Gert van Iperen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bosch Sicherheitssysteme GmbH:

-With visitors from all over the world, SECURITY ESSEN once again confirmed its international character, which is an excellent indicator of the dynamic development of the sector and clearly shows the growth potential forecast for the next few years. The new range of HD video systems and the fire alarm system, which detects fires at an early stage using innovative dual-beam technology, were very popular at our stand. Gioccino Tommaselli, Chief Strategy Officer, GPS

STANDARD S.P.A., Arnad, Italy:

— In our opinion, the competence and internationality of the visitors has increased compared to the previous exhibition. For example, many visitors came from Iran. Overall, the feedback about the exhibition was very positive. We believe that SECURITY ESSEN has become one of the most significant events in the industry.

Volker Bachmann, Art Director for Corporate Image at KABA GmbH:

— For us, SECURITY ESSEN was very useful. According to our calculations, this trade fair is larger in scale than the previous one, and the quality of SECURITY ESSEN has also improved significantly. This trade fair is extremely important for us, and we will definitely participate in it next time.

Martin Riebschläger, CEO of Wisag:

— To ensure effective protection, technologies alone are not enough. Simultaneous operation of security systems and qualified personnel is necessary. As for our stand, services provided to company personnel and corporate security services were in great demand. The exhibition allows us to continue the dialogue with customers and attract new ones. And our reports at the forum attracted wide interest. Visitors were also interested in our services using dog assistance. Larry Thomas, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Protech/Protection Technologies, Inc.:
— The visitors were very knowledgeable. In fact, our first visitor on Tuesday was potentially ready to reimburse all our expenses for the exhibition. Our company has been participating in the SECURITY ESSEN exhibition, which is expanding every year, since the early 90s. At the moment, this is the most profitable event in which we participate.

Dr. Harald Olschok, CEO of the Bundesverband Deutscher Wach- und Sicherheitsunternehmen e.V. (BDWS – Federal Association of German Security and Protection Companies) and the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Geld- und Wertdienste (BDGW – Federal Association of German Money and Valuables Carriers).— The representatives of the BDWS and BDGW Associations are very satisfied with the SECURITY ESSEN trade fair. It served as a successful start to another special trade fair called «Protection, Security & Service». The new arrangement of the exhibition stands and additional exhibits proved to be very successful. The talks focused on security policy issues, such as in the debate between Rainer Wendt, Chairman of the Federal Association «Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft» (German Police Union), and Wolfgang Waszulewski, President of the BDWS Association.

Michael Brotz, Head of Marketing and Communications, Siemens AG, Building Technology, Germany:

— There were a lot of visitors. They came up to the stand, asked specific questions, proposed specific projects, and also looked for possible solutions. The greatest interest was generated by biometric solutions and video surveillance systems. In the field of fire safety, the main topic is the development of new technologies. In addition, the focus was on the development of comprehensive approaches and the fusion of technologies. About a third of the visitors to our stand were foreigners, with a large number of visitors from Eastern Europe being worth mentioning. The topic of possible cooperation was repeatedly raised. The visitors from Germany also demonstrated a high level of competence.

Dr. Wolfram Krause, CEO of the BVFA – «Bundesverband technischer Brandschutz e.V.» (Federal Association of Technical Fire Safety Equipment):

— SECURITY ESSEN is well on its way to becoming a trade fair for fire safety. It was visited by many influential people from the security sector. These are potential customers for the companies in our Association, so we are very pleased with the contacts made during the trade fair.

Thomas Hein, Head of Marketing and Communications at Gunnebo Group:

— The number of visitors and their expertise were once again a pleasant surprise. We are very pleased with the results of the trade fair. At SECURITY ESSEN, we found many new target groups, such as those from the banking and retail sectors. In addition, our traditional customers also approached us at the trade fair. Visitors are showing increasing interest in solutions, and it is important to note that customers today are primarily interested in comprehensive security services.

Nicole Huffer, Head of Marketing and Sales, Simons Voss :

— SECURITY ESSEN is currently our most important trade fair and is an ideal platform for presenting our entire product range. We are very pleased with the results of the trade fair and would like to express our deep gratitude to the organisers. We are sure that we will see you again in 2012!

As at the previous trade fair, we had many interesting discussions at a high level.
