Description of the experiment to test the device for destroying information on magnetic media “Stek.

Description of the experiment  for testing the device for destroying information on magnetic media “Stek”
in the testing laboratory of the FSB of the Russian Federation.

Devices and equipment:

  1. Device for destroying information on magnetic media “Stek-NS1”.

  2. HDD   Conner CP30104H. The disk is formatted and is inoperative.

  3. Magnetic waveform visualization device using a crystal with memory. The resolution of the visualization device is 3 μm. Sensitivity is the strength of the guaranteed registered magnetic field of at least 1 oersted (80 A/m). The physical principle of recording the static magnetic field of magnetic carriers is as follows. The magnetic field of the carrier affects the structure of the magneto-optical crystal. As a result of rapid heating of the crystal to the Curie point, an “imprint” of the magnetic field under study is recorded in the crystal, which is observed in polarized light.

  4. Optical microscope.

  5. Digital camera.

Experiment procedure:

  1. The HDD has been dismantled (pos. 2). The magnetic plate has been removed (sides 0 and 1 of the magnetic disk).

  2. The magnetic plate has been placed in the magnetic signalogram visualization device (pos. 3). The magnetic field of the plate section has been recorded by obtaining its “imprint” on the crystal with storage.

  3. The crystal has been placed under an optical microscope (pos. 4) and photographed with a digital camera (pos. 5).

  4. Item 2, 3 are repeated for different sections of the magnetic plate. An example of a photograph of a section of the magnetic plate before the destruction of information is shown in Fig. 1.

  5. The HDD has been installed.

  6. The HDD has been destroyed using the “Stek-NS1” device (item 1) in accordance with the Product Operating Instructions.

  7. Item 1 has been completed.

  8. Items 2-3 have been completed.

  9. P.8 is repeated for different sections of the magnetic plate. An example of a photograph of a section of the magnetic plate after the destruction of information is shown in Fig. 2.

Conclusion:

The use of the “Stek-NS1” device to destroy data on the HDD made it impossible to recover the data using the equipment listed in Section 1.
