Cisco EnergyWise solution improves the environmental friendliness of all network devices.
Cisco announced innovative Cisco EnergyWise technology for Cisco Catalyst® switches. This technology measures, monitors and reduces the power consumption of IP devices such as IP phones, mobile computers and wireless access points. Additionally, Cisco announced new partnerships and announced the acquisition of Richards-Zeta Building Intelligence, Inc., an intelligent middleware company. All this will allow you to manage energy consumption in a variety of systems related to the operation of buildings (lighting, elevators, air conditioning and heating systems).
Cisco EnergyWise technology was developed in full accordance with Cisco’s strategy to use network technologies to reduce hydrocarbon emissions into the earth’s atmosphere, reduce energy consumption and environmentally optimize all economic activities. Cisco EnergyWise — part of Cisco’s broader technology roadmap to transform the entire information technology chain and make the network the central vehicle for reducing greenhouse gas emissions company-wide.
Deployment of Cisco EnergyWise technology to improve the energy efficiency of information technology and life-support systems in buildings will occur in three phases. In the first phase (Network Control Phase, February 2009), this technology will be integrated into Catalyst switches to manage the power consumption of all IP devices such as IP phones, CCTV cameras and wireless access points. The second phase (IT Control Phase, Summer 2009) is expected to expand industry support for Cisco EnergyWise and expand this technology to personal computers, mobile computers (laptops) and printers. At the last, third stage (building control stage, early 2010), Cisco EnergyWise will begin to manage heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems, elevator facilities, control of electronic entry passes, fire alarm sensors and security systems.
Cisco EnergyWise provides CIOs with real-time, detailed information about energy savings opportunities across the entire organization and within each location (on-premises, corporate branch, or data center). Beginning in February 2009, Cisco EnergyWise will be installed free of charge with a simple software update on all existing Catalyst switches and built into all new Catalyst switches.
Cisco partners with Schneider Electric for utility management, SolarWinds for network monitoring, and Verdiem for PC energy monitoring. The goal of this collaboration is to expand the EnergyWise platform so that by early 2010 it can manage the energy consumption of all information technology and utility systems. Additionally, as mentioned, Cisco acquired intelligent middleware company Richards-Zeta to enable simple and cost-effective interoperability and integration of building infrastructure infrastructure, information technology applications, and Cisco EnergyWise technology.
The new Cisco Green Business Value Calculator helps customers estimate the cost and savings (including greenhouse gas savings) of implementing Cisco EnergyWise solutions and other green technologies such as Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco TelePresenceTM and Cisco WebExTM. In addition, Cisco has introduced adaptive power management functionality into wireless network management systems (Cisco Wireless Control System). This will allow customers to save energy by turning off idle wireless systems during non-working hours.
«We at Cisco believe that information technology may well change the way humanity approaches solving environmental and energy problems, — says Judy Lin, senior vice president of Ethernet Switching at Cisco. — EnergyWise technology gives our company a unique opportunity to provide customers with complete information about energy consumption in their networks, not only at the device level, but also — in the future — at the level of the entire network, which will optimize business operations throughout the company»
«Cisco EnergyWise technology has given us complete company-wide visibility, and we are now conservatively projected to reduce energy consumption across all of our commercial premises by 15 to 20 percent, resulting in energy savings of 19 to 33 cents per square foot, i.e. thousands of dollars per year», — said Jeff Ton, vice president of information technology at Lauth Property Group.
«We are considered global energy management specialists, helping customers use energy as efficiently as possible, — recalled Schneider Electric Chief Executive Officer Jean-Pascal Tricoire. — Today, through energy monitoring and management, Schneider Electric can save up to 30 percent of energy in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Using the network as a platform with Cisco EnergyWise technology, we can further limit energy consumption and offer customers an efficient, simple and reliable infrastructure.
«The SURVEYOR solution allowed Verdiem customers to reduce the harmful impact of technology on the environment and save up to 60 percent of the energy consumed by personal computers. We look forward to signing the agreement to use the Cisco EnergyWise enterprise energy management system, as this solution not only highlights the company’s strong social responsibility, but also helps customers increase productivity and meet their environmental responsibilities. said Verdiem CEO Jeremy Jaech.
«SolarWinds provides powerful, simple and low-cost network management solutions to thousands of IT organizations around the world, — says Kenny Van Zant, chief product strategist at SolarWinds. — Throughout the year, the integration of Cisco EnergyWise and SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor will enable network engineers to more easily manage power consumption while performing other daily tasks»
