Contraband Detector
Detects:
- Drugs
- Explosives
- Firearms
- False Panels
- Easy to use
- Safe source of radioactivity (10μCi)
- Quick receipt results
- easy calibration
- reliability
- non-destructive testing
A contraband detector is a portable, lightweight device that indicates the presence of hidden materials by signaling unexpected changes in density or surface thickness. For example, an “empty” cylinder filled with air will give a lower reading than a cylinder filled with drugs.
When operating, the detector emits a stream of energy into the object being tested and measures the backscatter. A full space reflects more energy than an empty space. As the detector moves across the surface of the object, the measured
backscatter is displayed on the LCD (digital readout) and gives an alarm if the count changes.
Place the detector anywhere on the surface of the object and hold it for 2 seconds until a “normal” count is registered. Move the contraband detector across the surface of the object and any changes in density will trigger an alarm.
Typical Applications
Tires Compare the readings on a “clean” tire with those on a “suspect” tire.
Car Doors Normalize the readings in the center of the door with the window up. As the detector moves along the door, changes in the signal will indicate the presence of the frame, the window motor, and any hidden contraband.
Fuel Tanks Normalize the detector at the bottom of the tank and observe changes in indication or alarms as the detector moves. Fuel level will also cause a change in signal as it moves along the side of the tank.
Cargo Containers Check the walls for hidden cavities, examine cross-sections that may contain contraband.
Universal calibration anywhere
All devices are released calibrated in accordance with current standards. A serial secondary calibration block is supplied with each detector to enable calibration in real-world conditions.
The reliability of the device is ensured by built-in self-diagnostics
The built-in self-diagnostics program allows the user to check the operation of the microprocessor and indicator.
The detector looks under the surface
The detector uses a gamma ray beam to analyze the density or thickness of a surface and can work with wood, metal, fabric, plastic, etc. Since each material has a corresponding density, unexpected changes become obvious. With the exception of photo and X-ray films, the gamma rays used do not damage the objects being examined.
These devices are widely used throughout the world in the fight against drugs.

Contraband Detection Kit with Density Detector and Endoscopes
- Contraband Detector
- Flexible endoscope with built-in light source
- Tools for opening doors and floors
- Ultrasonic distance finder
- Search mirror with telescopic handle and illuminator
- Wear-resistant case
The contraband detector provides rapid detection of any hidden material. It detects differences in thickness or density of materials by sending a beam of gamma rays across the surface being monitored and measures the backscattering. A filled space reflects more energy than an empty space and the signal increases. As the detector moves across the surface the signal is continuously indicated and any change triggers an acoustic alarm. This detector is ideal for detecting hidden drugs, explosives, currency or weapons in car doors, fuel tanks or in cavities behind container walls.
The flexible endoscope allows visual inspection behind panels and inside hidden volumes through any openings with a diameter of 6 mm. The endoscope is equipped with a rotating peripheral tip and a halogen light source, which is conveniently located inside the handle, and a belt with a rechargeable battery. The endoscope rod is resistant to fuel and is suitable for viewing fuel tanks.
An accessory to the endoscope is the vehicle floor and door penetration tool. The floor penetration tool is passed between the floor slabs and allows the endoscope to be inserted into the central opening to provide viewing under the floor. The door penetration tool can be inserted through the rubber window seal without causing damage. The endoscope is then inserted into the door through a channel in the tool.
The ultrasonic distance gauge allows convenient measurement of the internal dimensions of containers to determine the presence of false walls.
The 350mm side view endoscope is ideal for inspection through 10mm diameter openings. The bright 10W tungsten halogen lamp at the end of the endoscope allows inspections to be made at distances of over 1.5m. Power is supplied by a pack of rechargeable batteries.
The search mirror with telescopic handle and illuminator provides a convenient way to view hard to reach places on ships and in buildings, under cars, on the roof of containers, in holds, behind panels, in roof and ceiling voids.
The mirror handle extends to 1400 mm and folds down to 350 mm. It comes with two screw-on mirrors: a convex mirror with a diameter of 140 mm and a flat mirror with a diameter of 64 mm. Each mirror has a protective rubber frame.
Three different sets are available, each supplied in a durable aluminum storage case.

Non-linearity detector (NLJD)
NLJD is used to detect electronic circuits found in both home-made VUs and radio transmitters.
Most modern electronic circuits contain semiconductors, which are nonlinear connections. A detector can detect them by emitting a very high frequency signal, which excites the nonlinear connection and this connection emits another signal, different in frequency. The detector, containing a highly sensitive receiver capable of receiving this frequency, indicates the proximity of the electronic circuit by giving an audible alarm.
The detector consists of a control unit, which contains a battery and is carried by the user on a belt or on an attached shoulder strap. The control unit also contains a loudspeaker, which gives an alarm signal, but for secrecy headphones (included) can be used.
The antenna probe, which contains the receiver and transmitter, extends from 300 to 800 mm, so that the operator can conduct the survey at floor level (without bending). A soft rubber-plastic cover protects both the antenna and the surfaces to be scanned from damage.
The device is provided with a printed circuit board with four diodes as a reference standard for checking the functionality.
All products are supplied in a robust carrying case with a rubber-plastic lining.
An optional external battery can be supplied to extend the life of the device if necessary.
On the left picture: an example of a response to a threat — a store inspection in search of arson devices.
Typical examples of NLJD use are as follows:
VIP protection support
NLJD can be used to search for eavesdropping devices and electronic homemade explosive devices in anticipation of a VIP visit.
Response to a threat
Can be used to survey large areas where devices can be hidden anywhere, such as incendiary devices in hardware stores or conference rooms.
Post-incident surveys
Because semiconductors can be detected even when not powered, NLJD can be used to locate circuit parts after an incident to provide forensic evidence or for research purposes regarding the origin of the device.

Compact portable X-ray generator and real-time viewing system used for inspection of suspicious packages. X-ray generator can be supplied separately.
Viewing system
It includes a video camera unit that is placed behind the suspect package to produce an X-ray image, which is then transmitted via a 50m cable to a powerful laptop computer for viewing. The system is very easy to set up and use, and can be powered by the included battery for up to two hours between charges.
Image Enhancement Allows the user to increase the contrast and sharpness of the image so that previously unrecognizable parts can be identified. This feature is especially useful in determining the design of homemade explosive devices.
Zoom The image area can be enlarged from 30 to 250%.
Pseudo-Color Image Allows the addition of artificial colors to the image, which helps to differentiate between the composition of the packaging — metal, electronics, explosive devices or drugs.
Measurements The items displayed on the screen can be measured.
Database Images can be stored in the computer database and recalled later. In addition, the screen can be divided so that multiple images can be displayed simultaneously. A fax/modem card can be added to transmit images to any point on the globe.
The entire system is supplied in a carrying case that can be easily carried by one person and contains the X-ray generator (Part No. 600-379).
X-ray generator
A very compact, high power X-ray generator which can be used independently, with Polaroid film or with a real time viewing system (List No. 600-378).
This generator is very easy to use. The operator only has to set the number of X-ray pulses to be generated and sets a delay time of 15 to 60 seconds to move away from the generator before it starts emitting. The number of pulses can be set between 3 and 297 with a nominal generation rate of 10 pulses per second.
The product is powered by an internal Ni-Cad battery, which fully charges in 1 hour using the supplied external charger.
